FEE WAIVER

For more information, please CLICK HERE. You may apply for a full OR partial fee waiver.

TEAM SIZE

Teams of 8-12 players.

Teams are considered complete once they have 8+ registered players. This means that team is guaranteed a spot in the upcoming season. Any team with less than 8 players at the close of registration will receive free agents to meet the required number of players per team. Free Agents will not be assigned to any team with 8 or more registered players unless approved by the captain. Teams will be required to head ref and line ref for other games during the regular season.

GAMES

Games will be played at Richmond Volleyball Club - Byrdhill (2921 Byrdhill Rd. Henrico, VA 23228)

Regular season games will be Sunday nights starting February 26th culminating with the end of season tournament on April 2nd.

Game times will be at 5:05, 6:05pm, 7:05pm or 8:05pm. (Tournament on 4/2 will begin at 5 PM)

Regular season games will be 55 minutes long maximum. Tournament games will be shorter in length until the semi-finals/finals.

DIVISIONS

Captains will be asked to choose a division between A (Advanced), B (Intermediate), or C (Beginner). Divisions may be assigned depending on registration numbers. If used, divisions will be assigned based on the information gathered during registration.

C level team is comprised of players who just want to play volleyball for the fun of it and meet new people. This division will not report a win-loss record. At the end of the season, an award will be voted on for the most fun team to play within the C level division.

A B level team is comprised mostly of level 2 to level 3 players who have never played before or have played and do not have extensive knowledge of volleyball. They will be placed in a less competitive league.

A A level team is comprised almost entirely of level 4 & level 5 players who have extensive knowledge and experience with volleyball. They will be placed in the competitive league.

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS

Everyone who registers will be asked to rate their individual skill level on a scale from 1-5. Players returning from a previous season of Stonewall Sports Richmond Volleyball are expected to rank themselves a level 2 or higher.

  • A Level 1 player has never played volleyball and is a first time volleyball player with Stonewall Sports Richmond. They are beginners who are brand new to the sport. If they have played before, they have not yet begun to bump, set, and spike and generally aim to just return a ball. A level 1 player should play in the C division
  • A Level 2 player has previously played volleyball with Stonewall Sports or another league but may still be fairly new to volleyball. They are just beginning to bump, set, and spike. They understand the basics but and most general game mechanics, but may not be interested in more competitive play.
  • A Level 3 player has played in a couple seasons of volleyball and/or has a more thorough understanding of the rules and game mechanics, but may still be learning to perfect the stages and skills of the game. A level 3 player knows how to bump, set (a little), and spike, but has a lot of practice yet to go to be able to do these skills consistently. They want to continue refining their skills and to play in B division is recommended.
  • A Level 4 player has played several seasons of volleyball and has a pretty strong understanding of the rules, game mechanics, and skills. They have quite a bit of experience playing volleyball and know where to be on the court at all times when plays are developing. They know where to be when an opponent is hitting. A level 4 player knows the footwork of and how to approach hitting effectively. They should understand and know how to run a 5-1 or 6-2 offense. They are interested in strategic and competitive play.
  • A Level 5 player has played several seasons of volleyball inside and outside of Stonewall and has a strong understanding of the rules, game mechanics, and skills. They know all the skills extremely well and can run combination plays in a basic way if passes are good; that includes slides, tandems, x's, crosses, and back-row hitting. They will understand and know how to execute a 5-1 or 6-2 offense, as well as the addition of a libero or defensive specialist.

TEAM T-SHIRT COLORS

Team T-shirt Colors - team captains will be able to choose their t-shirt color based upon the following parameters:

1. A returning team may keep their Dodgeball t-shirt color if that team has a returning captain/co-captain in a team leadership role.

2. T-shirt color preferences will be honored based upon the order that teams complete their registration (having 8+ registered members) and provided the captain requests T-shirt colors from the following T-Shirt color options link.  T-Shirt Color Options or T-shirt Heather Options OR Tank Top Color Options (once a team is granted a shirt color, subsequent requests for similar colors may not be granted at board discretion if it is deemed that the color request will make it difficult to discern one team from another).

3. Once a captain's shirt preference is logged, if that team decides to change shirt color preferences, their team's place in preference order may also change depending on the number of teams who have complete registrations and have provided accurate T-shirt color option requests. The color requests must be reported to richmond.courtsports@stonewallsports.org, even if the change is made on LeagueApps (the email timestamp will be used to determine new placement in preference order).

4. If you would like to update your color preferences after registration it must be done via email to richmond.courtsports@stonewallsports.org.

If you are brand new to the Stonewall Sports - Richmond family, you do not need a team to register. Many teams within our league have started as Free Agent teams or as a Small Group of 2 or 3 players.
